Open Source Software
This resource is a link to a website that provides collections of open source software that can be downloaded onto a USB memory stick and used on any Windows computer. The three collections have been put together by JISC RSC UK and are:
AccessApps - a collection of resources which improve accessibility
TeacherApps - a range of software applications useful to Teachers
LearnerApps - a range of software applications useful to Learners
The three collections can also be downloaded together as one large collection known as EduApps
To access the website select the link below which will open in a new window. You will be able to find out more about the three collections and to download them to a memory stick. Start by following the link to see a full list of the applications that you can download and to compare the three collections.
The website is designed to be as accessible as possible allowing font size and background colour to be changed and to work with screen readers.
The software applications included in the EduApps Suite include Open Office, Audacity (audio recording and editing software), D Speech (text to speech software), CamStudio (desktop recording software), Desktop Zoom (screen magnifier) and many more.
Although the resources can be downloaded as collections to run off a USB memory stick, it is possible to make up your own collection containing just the resources you require. It is also possible through this website to access the individual applications from their source and to download the software to run from a computer.
