Creating Web quests using Exe Learning

Summary:

This resource explores how Exe Learning can be used to create a Web Quest. A Web Quest asks the learner to explore specific sites on the Internet or offline resources in order to find out information. However, a web quest asks more of a learner than just to get the answers to questions. It also asks them to process the information they have found in some way before presenting or reporting back. Web quests are really useful ways to get learners working together collaboratively. For example you might use a web quest to get a group to plan a community garden or organise an outing. Or a book reading club could use a webquest to review and compare a number of books in the same genre.

Exe Learning is a content creation tool that allows you to produce complete learning objects. It is useful for producing web quests as it can easily incorporate the different stages of a web quest within its structure.

This resource was created in Xerte and contains an introduction to web quests as well as examples of web quests made in Exe Learning. The resource also includes a step-by-step guide to help you to get started with Exe learning.

Tip!:

Before you start to create your web quest, plan it very carefully to maximise the potential for collaborative work and differentiation of skills. If you are using Exe Learning to create the web quest, take a look at the 'iDevice' in Exe learning. It allows you to embed web pages within the learning object.
