Introduction to Content Creation

Summary:

These days it is easier than ever to create interactive resources that can really help your learners or the people you support. This resource is a Xerte learning object that provides links to step-by-step guides showing you how to create interactive resources using four different tools:

  • Microsoft® Word
  • Microsoft® PowerPoint®
  • Microsoft® Photo Story
  • Hot Potatoes®

Please note that we do not recommend particular products. The products described are presented as examples and there are many more content creation tools available.

As well as showing you how to create interactive resources, the learning object also suggests why such learning resources would be useful for enhancing learning.

Accessing the resource:

The resource is a Xerte learning object. To access the resource click on the link below, which will open the resource in a new window. Work through the learning object and close the window when you have finished. It is fairly easy to find your way around a Xerte learning object, but for help navigating Xerte, click the help function within Xerte.

Accessibility:

The resource was created with Xerte, which has inbuilt accessibility features and can be used with most screen readers.

Additional information:

There are many other tools that can help you to create quizzes and interactive exercises. If your organisation has a virtual learning environment (VLE) then this will provide a range of content creation tools. And if you would like to create a quiz online and make it available online, you could use Quia (http://www.quia.com/web), but bear in mind that Quia is not free-of-charge.

Tip!:

All of the content creation tools we have covered allow you to include images as well as words. Do try to take advantage of this as pictures not only bring your content to life, but also improve the learning experience for many people.
