Building Basic ICT Skills

Summary: 

By exploring this resource you will discover free online tutorials that you could use, either to develop your own or your learners' ICT skills. Three different topic areas are covered:

  1. Using a computer
  2. Internet and email
  3. Using Office applications (including Open Office)

Accessing the resource: 

Select the link below to Building ICT Skills - this will open the Building ICT Skills Learning object in a new window. The learning object will look at each of the three topic areas, for each it will direct you to a number of online tutorials to help you to develop your skills and give you a brief introduction to each.

Accessibility: 

The Building ICT Skills resource was created using a tool called Xerte.  This tool allows the user to change the size of the object, the background colour, text size and font. It allows some text to be read within the learning object if your computer's inbuilt narrator is turned on. Xerte will work with other screen readers.

As the resource covers more than one free online tutorial for each topic area it is worth exploring the different sites in order to find the one that meets your own or your learners' learning preference.

A quick way to find out how to perform a single skill using a software application is to search for a Youtube (http://www.youtube.com) video.  You will find that there are a lot of short videos which cover specific skills.
